Army Staff Sgt. Brian Cody Prosser, 28, of
Frazier Park, CA (Kern County), died Dec. 5,
2001, when a B-52 dropped a 2,000-pound
bomb too close to his position in Kandahar,
Afghanistan. He served in the 3rd Battalion,
5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Army Pfc. Brian A. Botello 19, of Alta, Iowa;
assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry
Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd
Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died
April 29 in Baghdad of wounds sustained
when an improvised explosive device
detonated near his unit during combat
operations.
Army Pfc. Travis W. Buford 23, of Galveston,
Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th
Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat
Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson,
Colo.; died Feb. 23 of injuries suffered when
an improvised explosive device detonated
near his Humvee during combat operations
in Ramadi, Iraq, on Feb. 22. Also killed were
Staff Sgt. Joshua R. Hager and Pfc. Rowan
D. Walter.
Army Pfc. Nicholas E. Riehl 21, of Shiocton,
Wis.; assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th
Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat
Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.;
died April 27 in Fallujah, Iraq, of wounds
sustained when an improvised explosive
device detonated near his unit during combat
patrol.
Army Cpl. Ray M. Bevel 22, of Andrews,
Texas; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st
Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat
Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum,
N.Y.; died April 21 in Yusufiyah, Iraq, of
wounds sustained when an improvised
explosive device detonated near his unit
during combat patrol operations
Army Sgt. Mario K. DeLeon 26, of San
Francisco; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th
Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat
Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt,
Germany; died April 16 in Baghdad of
wounds sustained from enemy small-arms
fire.
Cpl. Bradley T. Arms, 20, of Charlottesville,
Va. died Nov. 19, as result of enemy action in
Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to
the Marine Corps Reserve’s 4th Combat
Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division,
headquartered in Baltimore, Md.
Army Pfc. Cory C. Kosters 19, of The
Woodlands, Texas; assigned to the 2nd
Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne
Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died March 5 in
Samarra, Iraq, when an improvised explosive
device detonated near his unit during combat
operations.
Army Pvt. Barry W. Mayo 21, of Ecru, Miss. .;
assigned to the 1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry
Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division,
Fort Hood, Texas; died March 5 in Baqubah,
Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
detonated near his  unit.
Army Sgt. Daniel E. Woodcock 25, of
Glennallen, Alaska; assigned to the 2nd
Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne
Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died March 11, in
Ad Dawr, Iraq, of wounds suffered from a
building explosion while on combat patrol.
Cpl. Ian W. Stewart, 21, of Lake Hughes,
Calif., died Dec. 12 as result of enemy action
in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned
to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st
Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force,
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Army Staff Sgt. Charles D. Allen 28, of
Wasilla, Alaska; assigned to the 296th
Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd
Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died Jan.
4 in Baghdad of injuries suffered when his
unit came in contact with enemy forces using
small arms fire during combat operations.
Army Cpl. Jeremiah J. Johnson 23, of
Vancouver, Wash.; assigned to the 3rd
Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th
Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska;
died Jan. 6 in Baghdad of wounds sustained
when his vehicle rolled over Dec. 26 in
Baghdad.
Army 2nd Lt. Mark J. Daily 23, of Irvine, Calif.;
assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry
Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st
Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; died Jan.
15 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when
an improvised explosive device detonated
near his vehicle during combat operations.

Lance Cpl. Jason C. Cooling, an infantryman assigned to C Company,
1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5,
embraces a set of identification tags belonging to Lance Cpl.
Christopher B. Cosgrove III. Twenty-three year-old Cosgrove was killed in
action Oct. 1 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province,
Iraq. A memorial service was held Oct. 8, where hundreds of fellow
Marines and sailors gathered to honor Cosgrove. He was from Cedar
Knolls, N.J.
Lance Cpl. Michael J. Alfred, 22, of of Hyde
Park, Utah. died Sept 6 due to enemy action
in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl Alfred
was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine
Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine
Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Sgt. Brandon M. Stair pays his final respects to Staff Sgt.
Christopher M. Zimmerman who was killed in action Sept. 30, 2006.
Marines from 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat
Team 5 memorialized Zimmerman Sept. 30 at Camp Fallujah's
Chapel of Hope.
Cpl. Marcus A. Johnson, a 21-year-old mortarman, spends a moment to pray
for his fallen friend Lance Cpl. Rene Matinez in the Camp Habbaniyah Chapel
in Habbaniyah, Iraq Oct. 5. Johnson and other Marines of I Company, 3rd
Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment were there to honor Martinez's memory.
Martinez, a 20-year-old mortarman from Miami-Dade, Fla., was killed while
conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province. Johnson is from
Worcester, Mass. All Marines serve under Regiment Combat Team 5 and will
be conducting operations for the next several months.
